It's that time of year again! The Oscar nominees were announced yesterday, so it's time to start watching movies. I try to see every Best Movie nominee every year, and a few of the others with Best Actor/Actress as well.
Fortunately for my pocketbook, five of the eight Best Movie nominees are or will be out on DVD before the February 28 broadcast of The Academy Awards.
Here is the list of Best Movies and when/if they'll be out on DVD:
- The Big Short
- Bridge of Spies (DVD Feb 2)
- Brooklyn (DVD Feb 23)
- Mad Max (out now on DVD)
- The Martian (out now on DVD)
- The Revenant
- Room
- Spotlight (DVD on Feb 23)
I'm most looking forward to seeing The Revenant (but not its nearly 3-hour running time) and The Martian. I'm not looking forward to seeing Brooklyn (don't know anything about it, but it looks like a snoozefest), or Mad Max (HATED/DESPISED the earlier movies), but at least we won't be paying full price movie tickets to see those two.
Some other nominees I hope to see are:
- Creed (Sylvester Stallone is up for Supporting Actor)
- Joy (Jennifer Lawrence is up for Supporting Actress)
- Steve Jobs (Michael Fassbender up for Best Actor and Kate Winslet up for Supporting Actress)--DVD release date Feb 16
- The Hateful Eight (Jennifer Jason Leigh is up for Best Supporting Actress)
Watch this blog for my reviews. We'll start watching the movies next week.
